Latest with rear of Hounslow High Street (ASDA side)

February 8, 2010

I took my son out yesterday and thought I would take a quick look at the areas reported a week or so ago.

The good news is that there was improvements overall, such as:

The following piece of land looks worse (sorry for the lack of focus):

Picked up a a few more.  First near the alley at the rear of Starbucks and Mcdonalds:

Rear of 154 High Street:

Rear of Bon Marche & Ace Collections:

And some tagging in the middle of the High Street (near Lloyds):

Will report these today.

Yesterday evening, I was concerned by what I saw.  I was there again this morning so stopped to take some pictures.

The first is opposite 20 Hanworth Road:

The one that caused me the concern yesterday is on Hanworth Road (opposite junction with Inwood Road).  I am not certain what this is the rear of but it is not too far from the rear of HSBC (but I stress that this is not the rear of HSBC) The cars being parked there this morning to some extent hides just how bad it is:

And, finally, the carpark opposite number 2 Inwood Road has a lot of litter on it:

I will report these matters today and ask for urgent attention.

After being out and about campaigning, I went to join the family on Hounslow High Street.  The disposal of rubbish and/or flytipping was clearly a problem.  The first picture was taken near the former post office:

The following was the rear of one of the premises:

There is clearly the need for some visits to be paid and a solution/enforcement sought.  I will ask for this to be given some urgent attention.

This was a problem but is now looking much better.   The only thing worth reporting is that the following bin (not far from the former post office) is quite full:

A nice St David’s Day

March 1, 2009

Spent it with my family at the Westfield Shopping Centre – first time I have been there and it was very nice.  It reminded me about a discussion the Council’s Executive had last week about Hounslow High Street.  Whilst I made positive remarks about Hounslow, I agreed that it under performs.  I really hope that there will be improvements in the future and I know that the Leader, Peter Thompson, is very focused on this.

These things are not always easier and I do wander how saturated the High Street (or shopping hub) market is?  In our Borough, we have half a dozen or so High Streets.  We are also surrounded by Kingston, Richmond, Staines, Uxbridge, Westfield, Brent Cross, Ealing etc etc.

My gut instinct is that the future of High Streets in our Borough is to ensure that the local content is well embedded.  But what do I know?

Back to the title of this posting, I did not have anything Welsh to eat or drink and have no rugby victory to celebrate either!
