A312 Harlington Rd / A244 Hounslow Road – National Grid Gasworks

I received the following yesterday:

“Please be advised that National Grid will be carrying out works to repair a gas leak at the above junction this weekend. We understand the leak has been on National Grid’s log for a while and repairs need to be carried out as a matter of urgency.

Due to location of the works it will be necessary to deploy four way temporary traffic signals at the junction. All approaches to the junction will be narrowed down to single lanes. Works start on Saturday morning at 8am and it is anticipated the works will be finished and temporary signals removed by 6pm on Sunday evening at the latest.”

Oh RIGHT , ” We understand the leak has been on National Grid’s log for a while and repairs need to be carried out as a matter of urgency.
” a bit contradicting that isn’t it ???? , don’t suppose this could have been carried out when the water board had the road closed off for two weeks ???? , but that would be sensible wouldn’t it !!!

I think that there was a Heineken commercial 10-15 years ago about utility companies doing their relevant work during one outage. I agree with you.

To give National Grid their due, these works caused absolute- and predictable- chaos on that Saturday ( I didn’t even bother getting the car out), and most of Sunday. But they finished dead on time, and the junction was back to normal by 6.00 p.m., as NG had claimed. That’s something of a rarity these days.
