Bedfont Lakes (South Side)

I went for a brief visit this morning to the South Side.  It looked really stunning!

A lovely morning weather wise also!

It does look lovely Mark, and thanks for the photos. What a pity though that a promised footbridge never got built, and therefore the use of this as part of the larger Bedfont Lakes Country Park is largely ignored because its inaccessible except to those living on or around Ashford Road or just over the Spelthorne border. I hope when times are better, that this is something which might return to the leisure agenda again.

Do you recall when this promise was made? I am confident that it was before my time but would be interested to know. Not following through on promises is unacceptable so would like to look into this.

Mark – your photos above are actually of Bedfont Lakes north side on Clockhouse Lane.

Bedfont Lakes south side is the closed area of the part on Challenge Road Ashford which has never been open to the public – apart from the tiny triangle of land known as the dog walking area.

The footbridge over the railway linking the two sides was promised by the developers as part of their package in 1995 when the park was opened.

You may remember I raised this point at the second Leader’s Question Time when Cllr Lee, then Head of Leisure, agreed with me that there had been money set aside but it had ‘fallen into the bushes’ to quote him.

The Friends of Bedfont Lakes continue to campaign for the south side of the country park to be opened to the public – as this was originally intended by the developers when the park was gifted to the people of Hounslow as an open space for recreational use.

      Geraldine,

      Welcome to the blog!
My geography has let me down on this occasion so thanks for pointing this out. Thank you also for the background.

      Mark.
