I regret that this happened. In the past I had time for Sir Nicholas very serious commitment to manufacturing industry – something not enough Conservatives express passion about. I also thought he was right to oppose the pit closure programme in the early 90s – he was one of four Conservative MPs to do so.
But this is so out of touch and quite a few people in work made a point of mentioning this to me. I do not take the train much these days but I remember using the train to Swansea from Reading and carriage A was always quiet e.g. no mobiles etc.
Unfortunately, he was digging during the interview. On this, he is not representative of the Conservative Party – I am and totally disagree with what he said!
